Today I finally finish the story of our second day in Hawaii! I promise not all the rest of the days in our Aulani to Walt Disney World trip were this packed, so it shouldn’t take this long to relate them.
Our third tour of the day was ‘Iolani Palace, the only royal residence on US soil, now a dang fine museum. It was an interesting bookend to the day because it is basically the place where US annexation of Hawaii began, which of course lead to the eventual naval presence in Pearl Harbor. The palace has been a museum since the ’70s, but they are continually recovering artifacts and restoring rooms, and there has never been a better time to visit.
After the palace tour, you’ll read the story of how we almost spoiled our fancy and fabulous dinner at Alan Wong’s Honolulu with a box of Leonard’s malasadas, a signature Hawaiian (by way of Portugal) treat at a local institution. And then there’s a detailed review of Alan Wong’s, a Presidential favorite and one of the best restaurants we’ve dined at in years!
