Last weekend we checked out Halloween at Disneyland and DCA, and Patrick was so taken by the decorations in Cars Land, he took a bunch of photos for you guys!
Also, just an update on MaxPass using the Disneyland app: This time the app didn’t work for us at all on cellular. From the moment we walked in at 7am (when there was hardly anybody else in the place, so I’m not buying the “bogged-down network” thing) we got “Weak or No Connection” errors on both our phones. The only way to use MaxPass was to find a WiFi hotspot—which is a drag when you’re speed-walking from the main entrance to Guardians of the Galaxy, because there are only two hotpots along the way and they last about 10 steps each! And I still can’t get over the fact that there’s no WiFi inside Carthay Circle…. Or Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Critter Country or Toontown!
Anyway, back to Halloween….
Oogie Boogie cackles at you from atop DCA’s entrance. I wish there were lights on then ends of his bat arms. They kind of get lost in the dark. Maybe they could give the bats red glowing eyes!
The lights in the trees are such a simple thing but make a huge impact.
The Headless Horseman is a brilliant idea. The horse snorts smoke every few minutes—we really shoulda gotten a video or at least shot this with the good camera!
Oh wait! We did get shots with the good camera!
The main directive for Cars Land’s Halloween decorations seems to be “String lights everywhere! Also SPIDERS!!!” I know they’re just distributor caps or whatever, but if you’re afraid of spiders, maybe steer clear of Cars Land till Christmas starts at 12:01am on Nov. 1.
There are so many really clever ideas for making cars and car parts scary, though!
This zombie car climbing out of the ground is actually pretty terrifying!
Also super-creepy…
Event the Cozy Cones are imposing!
A clever “Brakes Motel” diorama in the lobby of the Cozy Cone…
Patrick was really taken with the Halloween costumes they made for Mater and Lightning for the photo op at the Cozy Cone.
This was not technically a photo spot, but people kept climbing over the chain to take their photo with this Dia de los Muertos car.
Haunted Mansion Holiday BONUS!
Over at Disneyland, we had the best-ever ride stop on Haunted Mansion that deposited us directly in front of the Sally animatronic! A sampling of the bajillion photos we took….
Next trip, I promise we’ll bring the good camera!

The one and only time we were at CA Adventure, Cars Land was not created. In fact almost all of CA Adventure was under construction!
What camera did you use?
